Sebastián Ángeles Turns Sounds Visible With Frequency 2.0

Sound is something we typically hear, not see – but what if it could take shape before our eyes? At this year’s SaloneSatellite exhibition during Milan Design Week 2025, Mexican designer Sebastián Ángeles brings that idea to life. With Frequency 2.0, he transforms the invisible into the tangible, crafting sculptural, sensory-driven furniture inspired by the resonance of sound waves. This re-edition of his poetic collection translates healing frequencies into four limited-edition pieces – a lounge chair, lamp, chair, and side table – each designed to echo the rhythm, energy, and emotional tone of sound in motion.

To bring these frequencies into physical form, Ángeles began by visualizing sound. Using sound visualizers, he converted waveforms into graphic patterns that directly informed the structure of each piece. Each design is rendered in polished aluminum – a material chosen for its tactile quality and ability to subtly vibrate – creating a multi-sensory experience that reflects both light and sound.

Each object in Frequency 2.0 is named after a specific frequency associated with well-being. The 432Hz Lounge Chair (ascension) draws from the frequency known for promoting harmony and balance, something the user physically experiences upon sitting. Its three-legged form momentarily suggests instability, but as the user relaxes into the chair’s contours, a surprising sense of groundedness takes hold. A faint vibration emerges on contact, subtly recalling the resonance of sound waves.

The 741Hz Lamp (purity) channels clarity and mental purity. Its bronze metal shade, shaped like an inverted bell, diffuses a hidden light source in an even, ambient glow. Both reflective and introspective, the lamp encapsulates the idea of light as a sculptural presence that brings clarity – both visual and mental – into the spaces it habits.

Where the 432Hz Chair plays with a momentary sensation of imbalance, the 396Hz Chair (healing) offers full stability. Also built with a three-legged frame, its enveloping curves embrace the body’s natural posture, encouraging comfort, contemplation, and calm.

Rounding out the collection is the 528Hz Side Table (love), a piece rooted in the frequency linked to love, transformation, and healing. With concave shapes and undulating surfaces, its mirrored finish catches and bends the light, creating a rhythmic interplay of shadow and reflection. The table’s form is soft, circular, and whole, mirroring the frequency’s associations with completeness and emotional restoration.

More than a furniture collection, Frequency 2.0 is an exploration of the connection between sound, emotion, and physical space. By turning healing frequencies into tactile, functional art, Sebastián Ángeles invites us to sit down and tune into our inner frequencies.
