Tastes change. Fads fade. And with that, new styles take their place, in the ever revolving cycle of what’s in. If there was a sustainable lighting solution that could change with your taste, would you flip that switch? The STAK Modular Lamp from Melt Mod is an elegant answer, with 3D-printed modules that can be interchanged and stacked in different configurations. Additive manufacturing and a PLA filament body make this a low waste option that can be remade and reconfigured infinitely.
The STAK Modular Lamp comes in ceiling, sconce, and tabletop versions, looking right at home in any part of the house. Because the 3D-printed parts are made on demand of PLA, a plant-based bioplastic derived from sugarcane, the STAK lampshades are 100% commercially compostable. This allows Melt Mod to experiment with shapes that would be difficult to produce using traditional manufacturing, while using smart materials to reduce waste. In addition, Melt Mod pledges to only use plastic free, recycled packaging for all products.
The STAK Modular Lamp looks equally elegant with a singular module as with seven. The modules, with a strong Scandinavian design influence, can be stacked and switched, changed and customized for a perfect fit. Small apartments, contemporary living rooms, and even professional spaces could benefit from a change in scenery once in a while, without the added expense of a new piece. And with six distinct shapes to choose from, the possibilities are basically endless.
The shades form a stately, mid-century inspired diffuser that make up the STAK Modular Lamp. Adding a touch of warmth to an otherwise standard filament bulb, the light encapsulates the Scandinavian design principles of warmth and coziness, or hygge. Within a relatively muted color palette, some stars shine: a rich terra cotta module, another a dusty blue. These hues, which include Sienna, Moss, Slate, and Sand, come together to form a cohesive, creative collection.
Since the STAK Modular Lamp is made to be installed on the ceiling, wall, or rest as a table lamp, all pieces come together and apart with ease. Convertible and customizable, the pieces fit together and snap, super intuitive for anyone who might not be familiar with lighting specifics.
Here we can see an exploded view of the STAK Modular Lamp, clearly detailing just how neatly the modules stack together. As always, the design is in the details, with cleverly hidden snap points and beautifully integrated installation hardware. No longer will the industrial L-bracket ruin our beautifully curated silhouettes.
Melt Mod is an emerging furniture brand, launching on Kickstarter this month and quickly earning a “Projects We Love” badge within the first two days. They specialize in 3D-printed lighting, the STAK Modular Lamp being the first of hopefully many more. “The STAK Modular Lamp was inspired by a desire to bring more flexibility, creativity and usefulness to home decor,” says Melt Mod founder Neil Kupras. “The goal was to create something that feels approachable, yet sophisticated, and versatile enough to fit any room.”
