Giving my carpets, rugs and sofas a deep clean is one of the many spring cleaning jobs that I never really find the time or the inclination to get around to doing. So, I jumped at the chance to review the Bissell ProHeat 2X Revolution Pet Pro carpet cleaner if it meant it could make this laborious task a little easier on me.
And I wasn’t disappointed in its performance, to say the least. I can confirm that Bissell’s ProHeat 2X Revolution Pet Pro carpet cleaner is one of the best carpet cleaners out there. Of course, there are always a few little niggles I noticed through tesing but the pros truly outweight the cons with this machine.
In a nutshell
I’ve tried a fair few carpet cleaners over the years, but the Bissell ProHeat 2X Revolution Pet Pro really impressed me. It’s incredibly easy to use straight out of the box, with three cleaning modes to suit whatever mess you’re dealing with.
The Express Clean is a real game-changer when you’re short on time, as it cuts down on drying time by using less water. The upright unit tackled even the trickiest stains in my home, namely dried red wine and coffee, with both vanishing within a few passes of the machine.
I loved the attachments too: one for the stairs, another for upholstery, and one specifically designed for pet stains, which made dealing with little accidents courtesy of our cat much less of a hassle.
You can even use this wet or dry, with the dry option designed for cleaning dry debris, particularly pet hair from upholstery and other soft surfaces.
A rug that was gathering dust in storage came up looking like new, and the cleaning solutions that come with it smell absolutely amazing. It’s definitely one of the best carpet cleaners I’ve come across. That said, it is on the larger side, so if storage space is at a premium, that’s something to keep in mind.

How I tested
Unboxing, setting up and first impressions
Unboxing the Bissell ProHeat 2X Revolution Pet Pro was refreshingly straightforward and didn’t feel like a chore.
The accessories were neatly packed in a cardboard holder sitting on top, which slid out easily to reveal the main upright unit and handle underneath. Everything was clearly laid out, and the handle clicked into place without any tools or fiddly parts to deal with.
The instruction manual was easy to understand, with clear diagrams and step-by-step guidance, so it didn’t take long at all to get the hang of how everything worked. I liked that it came with a measuring jug too, which made it simple to pour out exactly the right amount of cleaning solution, no real guesswork needed.
Filling the water compartment was quick and mess-free thanks to the wide opening and large handle, and there were no annoying leaks or drips when I popped it back into the machine. The water tank clips firmly into place with a reassuring click, so you know it’s secure and ready to go. Overall, it made the whole setup process feel smooth, organised, and very user-friendly.
The one thing I did notice, though, was that once the large 3.7-litre water tank was full and inserted back into the machine, it made it a lot harder to move around. I suppose it’s a minor niggle for me but this could be more of a problem for those with mobility issues so something to keep in mind.
Attaching the hose was also super simple when tackling upholstery and more targeted jobs. It clicks into the front of the machine near the base. You lift a little cover to click the hose into place. There isn’t a place to attach the hose permanently to the unit, but there’s a bag you can store it and the various attachments in when not in use. Although it doesn’t have onboard storage, there is a power cord holder so you can wrap the cord around to avoid any tangles.
When everything was assembled, it is quite the beast, but it’s a pretty sturdy beast, and I think that’s important for a carpet cleaner.
Using the Bissell ProHeat 2X Revolution Pet Pro Carpet Cleaner EX250UK
I found the Bissell ProHeat 2X Revolution Pet Pro really easy to get to grips with. Its design just makes sense — the handle and triggers are comfortable to hold, and switching between the hose and the main unit felt really natural. It is noisy though; both my kids had their hands over their ears the whole time, and honestly, I was pretty relieved when I switched it off too.
That said, the long power cord meant I could clean a good stretch of carpet without having to stop and plug it in somewhere else, which definitely made life easier. I also loved the big clean and dirty water tanks, which meant fewer trips back and forth to the sink mid-clean.
The 3.2 cm cleaning path helped too, covering a lot of ground in less time. You get three settings to play with depending on how messy things are: Max Clean for serious stains, Deep Clean for stubborn bits, and Express Clean if you just want the carpet dry in about half an hour. Plus, the CleanShot pre-treater helps give an extra blast to set-in stains.
Cleaning carpets
I tested the Bissell ProHeat 2X Revolution Pet Pro on two of the trickiest stains to clean, namely red wine and coffee, spilt straight onto an off-cut of our stair and landing carpet that I had kept.
I used it in Max Clean mode, and it took around three passes to lift the red wine, which was quicker than I expected, but the coffee stain was a bit more stubborn and needed a few extra passes before it disappeared completely.
The suction was strong, and the carpet looked noticeably brighter and fresher afterwards. I also tried the stair attachment, which made it much easier to clean the awkward corners and edges of my stair carpet.
One thing I did notice, though, is that the carpet was left absolutely sopping wet after using Max Clean mode, so it would easily take a couple of days to fully air out and dry properly. I probably should have used the Express Clean mode, which uses less water, but I didn’t think that would give the results I needed to get out those set-in stains.
Cleaning rugs
I pulled an old rug out of storage that had been sitting in the garage since we moved, gathering dust and looking a bit tired. I gave it a go with the Bissell ProHeat 2X Revolution Pet Pro to give it an overall deep clean with the you guessed it, the Deep Clean Mode, and I was genuinely impressed.
The white parts of the rug came up looking almost like new. You can see the transformation below. The machine left it bright, clean, and really revitalised, and I was embarrassed by how absolutely filthy it was before and how I didn’t even notice! It even managed to fade a few set-in stains that had been there for ages, though it didn’t completely remove them.
The scent it left behind was lovely too, and friends and family were still commenting on how nice the room smelled over a week later.
Cleaning upholstery
When I first tackled the suspect stains on our poor sofa cushion, courtesy of a toddler armed with snacks and sticky hands. I’d made things worse with a shop-bought upholstery cleaner that left behind even bigger water stain blotches.
I used the upholstery tool to zero in on those pesky water marks, scrubbing with determination and a touch of desperation. The suction was impressive, and it pulled up a surprising amount of gunk, but that stain had well and truly settled in.
It definitely needed a second go as this isn’t a one-pass miracle. After round two, the cushion looked a hundred times better. I honestly think if I’d reached for the Bissell first, instead of messing around with that pesky upholstery cleaner, it would have been no problem to get the stain out straightaway.
I also put it to the test on felt-tip and biro marks on our ottoman and sofa. Our little toddler loves to draw on anything but paper, and she’s absolutely lethal with a pen in her hand. It did a brilliant job lifting the ink out without too much fuss.
The felt tip, though, was a different story. It needed a good old scrub and a lot of patience, but even then, the Bissell managed to lift most of it out in the end, but a few fairly faint marks remain.
Cleaning and maintenance
Cleaning the Bissell ProHeat 2X Revolution Pet Pro is pretty simple, really. After a thorough cleaning session, I was both disgusted and oddly pleased by the murky water collected, proof of a deep clean.
Emptying and rinsing the dirty water tank was a breeze: I just pressed down on the colored handle, tilted the tank slightly towards me, and lifted it out.
To clean, I filled the tank with clean water, shook gently, and poured out the dirty water, repeating until the tank was clean and dry. Removing the brush rolls and nozzle for cleaning was just as simple.
After unplugging the machine, you pull up on the accessory hose door, press the two release buttons to lift off the brush roll cover, and rinse both the nozzle and cover under water. Using the clean-out tool provided, I removed any hair or debris from the brush rolls, then let all parts air dry before reassembling. Easy peasy.
How does it rate online?
The Bissell ProHeat 2X Revolution Pet Pro carpet cleaner has garnered lots of positive feedback from both experts and users for its powerful cleaning capabilities, especially in homes with pets, getting an average rating of 4.5/5 from over 27k reviewers on Amazon.
Reviewers highlight its effectiveness in removing deep-seated stains and pet odours, thanks to features like the CleanShot Pretreater and HeatWave Technology, which maintains consistent water temperature during cleaning.
The machine’s dual DirtLifter power brushes and multiple cleaning modes, including Deep Clean and Express Clean, offer versatility for various cleaning needs.
Users also love its user-friendly design, noting the ease of assembly and manoeuvrability despite its robust build. However, some mention that the machine can be quite loud during operation, and the water tanks may require frequent refilling for larger areas.
Overall, with high ratings across major retailers and endorsements from cleaning experts, the Bissell ProHeat 2X Revolution Pet Pro does seem to stand out as a top choice for those seeking a reliable and efficient carpet cleaning solution.
How does it compare to similar models?
It’s worth comparing the Bissell ProHeat 2X Revolution Pet Pro to our ‘best overall’ carpet cleaner in our buying guide, namely the Vax Platinum SmartWash Pet-Design Carpet Washer, which was awarded a perfect 5-star rating.
It’s another carpet cleaner designed for pet owners, and it comes with a whopping seven accessories, an odour-eating solution and Heatblast Technology that uses warm air to speed up drying.
That being said, it has a smaller dirty water tank than the Bissell ProHeat 2X Revolution Pet Pro so you would need to empty mid clean and it’s not quite as heavy duty for set-in stains.
In our guide, we also feature Bissell’s sister carpet cleaner, the Bissell Revolution HydroSteam which features a powerful steam cleaning function which is brilliant for deep, stubborn dirt and tackles really old stains effectively. However, it’s a lot more expensive though than the ProHeat 2X Revolution Pet Pro and it’s also way heavier at 10.2kg.
Should you buy the Bissell ProHeat 2X Revolution Pet Pro carpet cleaner?
I’ve been using the Bissell ProHeat 2X Revolution Pet Pro for a few months now, and honestly, it’s a great carpet cleaner and one of those rare bits of kit that just gets the job done.
With no faffing or elbow grease required, it’s a great choice for tackling carpets, rugs, and upholstery, lifting stains with not a lot of effort at all.
We’ve got a cat rather than a dog, so it’s not muddy paw prints we’re dealing with, but the odd accident or hairball and this machine tackles them beautifully.
The 2-in-1 pet upholstery tool is a real game-changer for little disasters like that. That said, it’s not exactly a dainty thing as it takes up a fair bit of cupboard space, and if you’re doing a full-house deep clean, you’ll need to refill the solution tank a few times.
But honestly, for pet owners, parents, or anyone fed up with stubborn marks, it’s absolutely worth the investment.
